VIJAY VILAS PALACE

The most beautiful architecture of Kutch, THE VIJAY VILAS PALACE, is one of the attractions in Kutch. Built-in 1929 by Rao Vijayrajji, this palace is an example of the precedent carving. The marvellous curves carved by most precision are so appealing to the visitors.

It was built of red sandstone in the traditional Rajput style, with a central dome and multi- coloured glass windows.

The interior is phenomenal and the huge playground extends all over the palace. Standing in the balcony you can view the superb neighbourhood.

KALA DUNGAR

25 kms. North of khavda, the top of the Kala Dungar is the highest point in Kutch at 462 m. From here the view is breathtaking which blends the sky and the desert. You feel like you are the top of the world where the view goes beyond infinity. The 400-year-old Dattatreya temple is also located here. Dattatreya was the three-headed incarnation of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in the same body. The height of this hill also provides a good photography. If you are a photogenic person, this destination is must for you.

MANDVI BEACH

The principal port of Gujarat is seriously breathtaking. The soft and fine sand when meets the roaring waters, the sound that is produced soothes the visitors. Swim in the warm Arabian Sea and let the sound of flamingo and other birds make you comfortable.

Visit the shipbuilding yards along the Rukmavati River where wooden ships are still built by hand. Recreate your favorite scene from Lagaan or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, both of which have scenes filmed at the palace.

SRI SWAMINARAYAN TEMPLE

This elegant temple is made of white marble which shows the rich talent of the workers. It depicts mostly Lord Krishna and Radha. It was destroyed in 2001 Bhuj earthquake but was rebuilt with the help of donations from all over the world. Located just down the road from the Ramkund step well and the Alfred High school, the temple marks the spot where Swaminarayan sat with local holy men when he came through Bhuj.

This place is surely worth a visit and pray for your family and friend’s welfare.

KUTCH MUSEUM

The oldest museum in Gujarat, founded in 1877 by Maharao Khengarji, it has the largest existing collection of Kshatrapa inscriptions, dating to the 1st century AD, as well as examples of the extinct Kutchi script and an interesting collection of coins. A section of the museum is devoted to tribal cultures, with many examples of ancient artifacts, folk arts and crafts and information about tribal peoples. The museum also has exhibits of embroidery, paintings, arms, musical instruments, sculpture and precious metalwork.

A visit to the museum will help you know that how the lives of people have changed how the tribal’s used to live.

GANDHI NU GAM

A devastating earthquake in January 2001 left millions of residents homeless. It was seen that the traditional houses survived the destruction. They were circular, built with adobe bricks and a conical thatch roof and are richly embellished with clay and mirror relief work. Art, culture and architecture are symbiotically interwoven in these houses.

Many villages and hamlets were devastated in the earthquake. Gandhi Nu Gam was redeveloped post the earthquake through a holistic and participant view point. It maintained the socio-cultural tradition & building systems of the local area, as well as improving the local economic condition by providing a platform to sell local handicraft. Each house in the village is an example of the traditional style and culture of the area.

SHYAMJI KRISHNA VARMA MEMORIAL

The British ruled over India for over two hundred years. Many individuals took on the might of the British to free India. Shyamji Krishna Varma chose to take this fight to British soil and made London his base. Shyamji Krishna Varma was born on 4th October, 1857 in Mandvi town of Kutch district of Gujarat. He was one of the foremost freedom fighters in the history of the freedom movement of India with high sense of patriotism and selfless service for the nation. He had organized a revolutionary center in "India House" at London and propagated the cause of India’s independence through his writings in his publication journal called The "Indian Sociologist".

As you step into The White Desert at night, the cool breeze, the serene silence, the huge expanse transports you to an entirely different world. The salt-encrusted lands glows brighter as the moon rises higher. Around midnight when the moon has reached its peak, the entire surface shimmers like a blanket of diamond spread out endlessly in front of you.

KUTCH BUSTARD
SANCTUARY

Also known locally as the Lala Prajan Sanctuary, its primary aim is to conserve the Great Indian Bustard. Among many other different varieties of wildlife that can be found within the reserve, there are three different kinds of Bustards themselves in the sanctuary.

The sanctuary covers an area of just over 2 sq. km, but still houses some of the excellent species including harriers, common cranes, black partridges, sand grouses, Black and Grey Francolin, Spotted and Indian Sandgrouse, quails, larks, shrikes, coursers, plover, Imperial Eagle, flamingos, herons, egrets, sandpipers, etc.

AINA MAHAL

The Aaina Mahal palace, or 'Hall of Mirrors' was built during the flamboyant rule of Lakhpatji in the middle of the 18th century. The responsibility of engineering, architecture and embellishment was entitled to Ram Singh Malam - a genius of an artist who took his training in Europe for 17 years but came back to India seeking name and fame. He was asked by the king to create this palace of dreams for him, and thus the Aina Mahal came into existence.

NARAYAN SAROVAR SANCTUARY

A 125km drive away from Bhuj, this sanctuary covers an area of about 444 sq. km. and is one of the distinct eco-system in the Kutch district of Gujarat state.
Also known as Narayan Sarovar Chinkara Sanctuary, it is a home to number of mammals such as chinkara, the endangered Indian wolf, wildcats, desert foxes, honey badger and wild boar. Tourists can also see around 184 distinct species of birds in this sanctuary including waterfowl, black partridge, houbara bustard, lesser florican and great Indian bustard. Around 252 kinds of plants can be found in the sanctuary like gorad, babul, kerdo and more.

HAMIRSAR LAKE

Hamirsar Lake is located in the western end of Bhuj. Its water level depends on the time of the year. It might be dry and largely deserted, or full of water, and encircled by merry families. The lake is absolutely stunning in look and has a cheerful outlook. It is a must visit, for a happening and lovely get together.
Hamirsar Lake is a water body at the heart of Bhuj town. It is located in Kutch, Gujarat. Bhuj is known for hot and dry summers. This lake is considered an oasis between saline and arid Kutch.

MATA NO MADH

Mata no Madh is a temple dedicated to Maa Ashapura and is located 138 kilometres from the city of Bhuj in Gujarat. The serene place of worship of Maa Ashapura is well maintained and offers a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere for the pilgrims. The goddess is also referred to as Desh Devi, meaning the Goddess of the people. Visitors can offer their prayers and explore the beautiful temple complex. Mata no Madh is a good illustration of traditional Indian architecture with elaborate and intricate carvings.

INDIAN WILD ASS SANCTUARY

This uniquely named sanctuary, located in Little Rann of Kutch, is India's biggest wildlife sanctuary spreading over a massive 4954 square kilometer. It is home to a wide variety of carnivores, mammals, birds.

The sanctury is best known for the endangered species of the Indian wild ass like Khur as well as the Asiatic wild ass species, Oranger. Other kinds of mammals, reptiles, amphibians are also found in this area.

DHOLAVIRA

One of the most remarkable excavations of the Indus Valley Civilization, Dholavira was one of the most developed civilization roughly 4500 years ago and makes an equally enchanting tourist destination today
